I really enjoyed learning about creating a podcast. I did not realize that they could be only sound. I thought that podcasts were always video and sound together. It was neat to think about all the ideas for how students could use podcasting in the classroom. I found podbean to be extremely easy to use. With a few clicks I was able to upload my podcast and was set to go. My students just finished a procedural writing unit where they created how to videos. It would have been really great to have had the students use the video to create podcasts instead of just a video that we shared in class. I think that even the younger students would be able to create a podcast. Our first graders are taking a field trip to the Childrens' Museum and I am considering ways that we may be able to use podcasting to create a project when we return from the museum. If any of you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!
Mary ~ I love your idea of using the podcast to give your parents important information. My team sends home a newsletter (with hidden incentives for our student's whose parents read it) and we find out that only 3 out of 25 read it on average. If there was a site that the parents could "listen" to the important dates, perhaps they would be more likely to go to it and would be more informed with what was going on!
ReplyDeleteSarah, can you give me an example of what your "hidden incentives" are?
ReplyDeleteMary, I like your idea of trying podcasting with your first graders. I am sure podcasting could be used to meet some of the speaking and listening standards. Does first grade have a lot of speaking and listening standards with the Common Core? Kindergarten has a ton!
